Księgarnia Akademicka Publishing does its utmost to protect your personal data by using appropriate security and technological solutions against access by third parties. The policy regarding the use of our company’s websites specifies what actions are taken for this purpose and on what principles your personal data is collected, processed and stored.

The website (https://akademicka.pl) and electronic platforms (https://books.akademicka.pl and https://journals.akademicka.pl) of Księgarnia Akademicka Publishing (hereinafter referred to as Portal) operate on the basis of the Privacy Policy in accordance with the relevant legal acts on the protection of personal data, in particular with the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU) 2016/679 of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free traffic of such data, and repealing the Directive 95/46 EC.

Administrator: Księgarnia Akademicka Publishing Ltd., with its seat in Kraków, ul. św. Anny 6, 31-008 Kraków, entered into the Register of Entrepreneurs kept by the District Court for Kraków-Śródmieście in Kraków, XI Commercial Division under the number KRS 0000145510, with the NIP number 676-007-55-73.
Personal Data: any information about an identified or identifiable natural person possible with one (or several) specific factors determining the identity of a natural person, including the IP number of the device he uses, location data, internet identifier and information collected via cookies.
GDPR: Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 7, 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free traffic of such data, and repealing the Directive 95/46/EC.
Portal: website in the domain https://akademicka.pl and platforms with electronic publications: https://books.akademicka.pl and https://journals.akademicka.pl.
User: any natural person who visits the Portal or uses one or more services available on it.
Logging: gaining access to the User’s account, created during the registration process to electronic platforms: https://books.akademicka.pl and https://journals.akademicka.pl.
Partners: trusted third parties, including external suppliers, cooperating with the Administrator, responsible for the proper operation of services and functionalities provided as part of the Portal.


2. How We Use Your Personal Data?

The administrator processes personal data following the consent expressed by the Users of the Portal, as well as in cases where legal provisions authorize them to process such data.
When Users visit the portal, the Administrator collects information concerning them to the extent necessary to provide services offered on the Portal. Specific rules and purposes of processing collected personal data are as follows:

  • using the Portal;
  • registration of Users’ accounts on the electronic publication platforms books.akademicka.pl and journals.akademicka.pl, their maintenance and service;
  • execution of orders for electronic publications (including the implementation of statutory obligations regarding the Administrator, resulting from tax and accounting regulations);
  • in the case of Authors, placing data in the international academic communication environment by integrating digital identifiers and sending metadata containing personal data to bibliographic and indexing databases;
  • for marketing purposes of the Administrator and Partners (including those related to the presentation of behavioral advertising) – sending newsletters containing information about new products, book announcements, promotions and the Administrator’s offer; the newsletter is sent only to the users who have given their consent;
  • running Administrator’s profiles on social networks (Facebook, YouTube) and organizing events and competitions there;
  • possible determination and pursuit of claims or defence against them;
  • analysis of Users’ behaviour in order to improve the services provided on the Portal and statistical purposes;
  • identification of senders of inquiries and notifications, in particular via contact forms, and replying to these messages.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may contain embedded content (e.g. links, videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in a similar way as if the user visited a specific website directly.
Sites may collect information about users, use cookies, attach additional external tracking systems, monitor your interactions with embedded material, including tracking your interactions with it if you have an account and are logged in to that site.
The administrators of these websites are solely responsible for the privacy policy of external websites.

The Administrator makes every effort to ensure that the users’ personal data is processed in a safe manner. Hence, the risks related to this issue are analysed on an ongoing basis. Moreover, the Administrator ensures that the operations performed on the collected personal data are performed by authorized employees and associates.
To maintain data security, the portal uses the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol.


6. Your Rights

If the User has a registered account in the Portal or has added comments in it, they may request a file with the exported set of their personal data kept by the Administrator, including all those provided by the User. The User may also request the removal of all personal data kept by the Administrator. However, this does not apply to data that the Administrator is obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security reasons.
In the case of User accounts registered on the books.akademicka.pl and journals.akademicka.pl electronic publication platforms, the User may update their data (except of the username) at any time.
The User may withdraw consent to the processing of their personal data at any time. To do so, they should contact the Personal Data Protection Inspector appointed by the Administrator by e-mail: iodo@akademicka.pl.


7. Cookies and Similar Technologies

7.1. What are Cookies?

Collecting information about users also takes place with the use of the cookie mechanism when they visit websites or use the application. Cookies are small pieces of text information sent by a specific web server and usually saved on the hard drive of the User’s computer or in the memory of the mobile device. According to the default settings of these types of files, the information contained in them can only be read by the server that sent them.

Neccesary Cookies – they must always be turned on, as they are essential to the basic functioning of the Portal and its security. They do not store any personal data. Functional Cookies – enable the Portal to provide greater functionality and personalization. One of their tasks is remembering the User’s preferences or the status of his login. These are cookies that are not necessary for the Portal to operate. They are used in particular to collect Users’ personal data through analyzes, advertisements, and other embedded content. It is required to obtain the User’s consent to run this type of files.

Statistics and Performance Cookies – these types of cookies are needed to analyze the behaviour of Users during their visits to the Portal. They enable the acquisition of more detailed knowledge (including the number of visits, traffic sources, course of the visit), which may help in better presenting the content of the Portal to Users, and assessing the popularity of displaying and downloading publications, which is very useful in analysing the reach of individual publications.
Marketing Cookies – these types of cookies may be set via the Portal by the Administrator or Partners for marketing purposes (e.g. Facebook), often including the use of behavioural advertising. They can be used by these companies to obtain information about the User’s interests, including those previously saved in the form of cookies on the User’s device, and, as a consequence, to show them better selected ads or messages. If the User does not allow these types of cookies, they will receive less targeted advertising.
Third-Party Cookies – this type of cookies allows for integration with social networks (including Facebook, Twitter, Mendeley) and our Partners (including Google).
